A very special case of wine, ideal as a business or personal gift, or equally pleasing if you want to be self indulgant.  Each of the wines chosen has been selected to represent the very best of each region and, whilst enjoyable now, these classic wines do have the ability to age very gracefully.  These wines are only available in small quantities and are very highly sought after.

The Meursault 1er Cru from Jean Claude Boisset is jaw droppingly good.  Very elegant citrus and tropical fruit, a touch of oak (1 and 2 year old French barrels), and a firm backbone of acidity.  Whilst this will age, I do prefer this particular wine younger before it puts on too much weight.  The Ata Rangi Chardonnay is a wine from Martinborough that is putting a considerable claim to be New Zealand's best Chardonnay.  The quality really is exceptional.

The reds begin with Chateau Palmer's second wine, Alter Ego.  Based in Margaux, this is produced from younger vines and made for earlier consumption than the Grand Vin.  Deliciously seductive with dark silky fruit and fine grained tannins, it's top quality claret.  Also from the Left Bank is another stunner, Chateau Leoville Barton from Saint Julien.  Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon based, the wine has a beautiful purity of fruit, great structure and silky tannins.  Delicious.

The final two reds are from the New World.  Mountford's Pinot Noir from Waipara in the South Island has often been mistaken for fine Burgundy and, indeed, it is made in a very Burgundian style, full of elegant smoky fruit with those lovely savoury secondary aromas.  Brokenwood's Graveyard Shiraz is an iconic Aussie Shiraz that has lovely soft sweet fruit alongside subtle spice, leather and herb notes.  It's a stunner and one of my favourite wines.
