One of our Vindependents' group exclusives from Northern Italy, this is a cracking little wine that hugely over delivers for the price. This is made using a technique called appassimento where some of the grapes are dried on mats for 3 months, allowing them to raisin slightly and concentrating the aromas and flavours. What you get is a lovely juicy wine with a nose of red cherries, redcurrants and raisins, as well as sweet spice and toasted oak notes. On the palate the wine is fresh and velvety with cherries, stewed fruit and figs. The dried grapes add depth and texture, and the wine has ripe tannins and good acidity. A long finish and it's hard to believe that they've packed in so much flavour for under a tenner.
