One of the true classics of Sauternes and a wine that never disappoints whether drunk in its youth or throughout its long, long lifetime. Owned by Barons de Rothschild and run in their trademark style of meticulous fruit selection and focus on quality.
The 2005 is still very much in its infancy, a rich gold in colour with lighter highlights. The nose is brimming with peach, pear, clementine, pineapple and mango with botrytised notes waiting in the wings. The palate is creamy and honeyed with a continuation of the fruits from the nose with a buttery richness, all offset by the pin sharp acidity and structure. There are signs of development here but this wine will appreciate being tucked away until 2018+ to really enjoy the best of what it has to offer.
