We are very happy to have this delicious Cabernet back in our list after almost 5 years. In fact when I started working for the Secret Cellar in 2010, this was a wine customers would repeatedly ask about but sadly it had been pulled from the UK market, thankfully it is now back.
Montgras' Intriga site has been planted with Cabernet Sauvignon since 1960 with original vines intermingling with plantings from more recent years, at 450m above sea level, the climatic conditions are perfect for this slow ripening variety. In true Bordelais fashion, the Cabernet Sauvignon is bolstered with 9^% Cabernet Franc & 6% Petit Verdot, often the unsung heroes of many a great Claret. That said, this is unmistakably New World, from its rich purple hue to its powerful nose of damson fruit and dried herbs. The palate has real weight with firm, sweet tannins driving the dark fruit and leathery notes towards a lengthy finish. Drink now if you like a full, rich wine or wait for up to 15 years for mellow, integrated flavours to develop.
