Whilst this may look like a well priced bottle of Sauternes from an outstanding vintage, this is actually "declassified" wine from probably the greatest sweet wine producer in the world. The fact that it is declassified means we cannot tell you which chateau it comes from, but when we discovered the source, we bought as much as we could. As mentioned, 2011 is a truly great Sauternes vintage and this is a terrific wine. It's not massively botrytised but has delicious notes of fresh apricot, mandarin, honey and peach. With lovely acidity keeping it balanced, the palate is lively and beautifully rounded with stone fruit, orange, honey and a hint of cream. It's a really, really pretty wine that can be enjoyed immensely now or left in bottle for up to 20 years. When you put together a wine of this pedigree at this price, it's an absolute must. I've got my cases already.
