Truly artisan wine from the wonderfully named Hubert Lapierre, who alongside his wife Denise oversee the tiny 3.5 hectare estate. Crafting 5 wines from his ancient vines that lie on the boarder of Chenas & Moulin a Vent towards the north of Beaujolais where the youngest vine is a staggering 47 years old and the vines used in the Vielles Vignes wines are more than 90 years old, giving gravitas to the 'Old Vines' name - something new world producers can often only dream of!
This stunning Chenas is a real treat and staggering value when put against not only it's Burgundian neighbours but the vast majority of wines produced globally - if it's complexity, style and age-worthiness you're after look no further. Deep garnet red in colour with a nose of rustic red and black fruits with a wild floral edge and layered savoury notes. The palate is mouthwatering and very exciting, with bags of crunchy yet ripe fruit, intense fresh leather and graphite. The persistence of flavour is remarkable. This wine will confidently age for 7-10 years.
