Chateau D'Esclans is owned by Sacha Lichine, whose family own the classed growths Chateau Lascombes and Chateau Prieure Lichine in Margaux. Alongside ex Mouton Rothschild winemaker Patrick Leon, the aim is to make the best Provence roses, bar none. And I have to say that this blows Domaine Ott out of the water.
The new vintage has just landed and it's as great as ever. The nose is intense and very classy with layers of light red cherry, strawberry and cranberry. These red fruits follow through onto the palate, backed up by nice fresh acidity and a clean mineral edge. It's a lovely smooth, long finish and everything about this wine screams quality. It's got complexity, balance and freshness. Not cheap, but less money than Domaine Ott and, as stated previously, much better.
