When one thinks of Lebanese wine, one immediately thinks of Chateau Musar, but there are plenty of great alternatives out there - and Ixsir is certainly one. A blend of 61% Syrah and 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, the team here tasted this at a supplier dinner recently and we were all hugely impressed.
Their Grande Reserve is produced from the finest grapes selected from the best terroirs in the Batroun district. The Syrah and Cabernet are vinified separately and then blended to create a stunning wine which is packed with ripe dark berry fruits, exotic spice, liquorice and finely textured oak. Whilst it has a warmth and depth of flavour you might expect, it's very finely balanced with good acidity, supple tannins and moderate alcohol. The length of flavour is impressive and, paired with fillet steak or game, this is stunning. I highly recommend trying a bottle or two.
