Deep ruby red in colour with an opaque core, the Reserva, produced from old vines, has a pronounced nose of smoky plum, damson and prune, along with liquorice, tobacco and sweet vanilla notes. The palate is pretty full on to begin with - dark brambly fruit, pepper, cloves and tobacco - but this initial attack softens to show a sleek and well balanced wine. The tannins have some grip but are fine grained, and the acidity is decent keeping everything in check. The finish is particularly long. From an outstanding vintage.
SC RATING - Outstanding ++ (Mike)
