This is boutique producer Holden Manz's top wine, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with a little Malbec and Petit Verdot thrown in for good measure. The name Big G refers to the winemaker whilst the picture of an elephant on the label is because Franschhoek was formerly known as Elephant’s corner.
It's an intensely concentrated ruby coloured wine with an explosion of blackcurrant, vanilla and plum on the nose.
The full bodied palate exceeds expectations, consisting of full dark fruit and a firm ripe tannic structure that is backed by well-balanced acidity. A real treat for South African lovers and one which you may have not tried before. It certainly takes after it’s name and is a wine that fans of fuller reds will love.
