Tasting Notes
Deep golden in colour, the wine is bright, clear and has good concentration. On the nose, the wine presents a lot of finesse and elegance with a very ripe aromatic framework with notes of acacia honey, candied lemon, quince paste, dried fruit and vanilla. A sublime nose that with aeration takes on fresher notes of minerality.
Supple and rich attack on the palate, dominated by flavours of jammy fruit and honey but balanced with slightly lemony notes. The wine has a good length and finishes on a beautiful mineral note.
Producer Profile
Domaine Romanin is located in the centre of the village of Fuissé, right at the heart of the famous vineyards of Pouilly-Fuissé, where the Domaine’s Vervier Family are now into their fifth generation of winegrowing. Unsurprisingly, tradition plays a key part in Denis Vervier’s vinous strategies as he goes about crafting his exemplary and authentic expressions, with sustainable viticulture, manual harvesting, time-tested cellar techniques and scrupulous attention to detail all key components.
The vines are between 30 and 70 years old and enjoy a south/south-eastern exposure that is highly conducive to ripening, with the clay and limestone soils typical of the region bestowing their own unique characteristics on the Chardonnay fruit via fruity and floral nuances. There is, particularly with the blended Pouilly-Fuissés, a skill in the assemblage that sets this area of Burgundy apart.
In 1998, Denis Vervier, after studying at the Macon-Davayé winemaking college, took over the management of the family estate. This artisan winemaker produces very fine Burgundy wines, which have won several awards. His discretion belies a unique expertise and an unconditional love for the vine. His secret: constantly seeking the perfect ripeness of the grapes to reveal their finest expression. The estate now covers 12 hectares of vines (Pouilly-Fuissé, Mâcon-Fuissé, Mâcon-Solutré), all managed using sustainable agriculture.
Viticulture
This Pouilly-Fuissé wine is made from old vines aged between 65 and 80 years grown on the slopes of the famous Roche de Solutré-Pouilly. It’s very clayey and shallow terroir, combined with very low yields and a long vinification of 12 months in oak barrels, allow us to produce a rich wine with a beautiful substance.
Sourced from the oldest vine. All hand picked.
This white wine is crafted from the Chardonnay grape, typical of the Burgundy region, and comes from a prestigious 1er Cru vineyard in Pouilly-Fuissé. The 2022 vintage benefited from optimal ripening conditions, resulting in fruit that is both expressive and refined.
Winemaking
As a Non-interventionist, Denis uses very few external products but has not yet converted to being fully organic. The wines go through a very light filtration before bottling, just to make sure the wines are clear.
Fermented in a mix of stainless steel and oak, it aims to enhance the wine`s terroir while providing structure and depth
Goes well with
Ideally accompanied with fish, shellfish, seafood, poultry and last but not least goats cheese.
Cellaring
Enjoy now and for the next 8 years.
