This is my favourite of the Flametree wines, and the one that really, really excited me when I first tasted the range (and I was excited by the whole range). It's a stunning Chardonnay that manages to balance richness and power with subtlety, purity and a delicate touch - and when those things combine, you know you have a great wine. It's stunning, an enticing nose leading you into a palate with layers of citrus, pear, peach, mango, hazelnut and toasty oak. But there's more - savoury notes, gun flint, a touch of salinity, texture from the lees, crisp acidity, and that je ne sais quoi that wild ferment gives. It's harmonious, balanced, long and more than delicious, a rising star among the brilliant Margaret River Chardonnays that already exist. Given the 2014 was the perfect growing season, this will develop nicely for 10 years or more, and I will certainly be putting some away in my own cellar. Listed in James Suckling's Top 10 Wines of 2015 with 98/100 points. It makes this a relative bargain, the downside being only tiny amounts are available.
SC Rating - EXCEPTIONAL (Mike)
