Westwell Wine Esates is located just beneath the Pilgrims Way on the North Downs in Kent - a route used for centuries by Pilgrims travelling to Canterbury.
Here, they grow four different grape varieties - Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Ortega.
All their wines are made on site from fruit grown on the estate which ensures complete control of the full process and ensures an end product that they can be really proud of.
Ortega was created in 1948 by Hans Breider at the Bayerischen Landesanstalt für Wein-, Obst- und Gartenbau in Würzburg and was released with varietal protection in 1981.
It is a cross between Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe.
Westwell Ortega is fermented in stainless steel and at a slightly lower temperatures than those of a barrel ferment and it boasts precise floral aromas of honeysuckle, grapefruit and peach.
It displays notes of grapefruit, guava and melon on the nose, easing to crisp palate of lemon, peach and white pepper with a good length.
Pairs perfectly with white meats and shellfish or can be simply enjoyed on its own!
