A moderate maritime climate benefits from the Gulf Stream and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
Almost all Red Bordeaux are produced from a blend of grape varieties, principally Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot with some Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot.
The 1855 classification system remains intact today and the top ranked wines still include Lafite, Latour, Margaux, Mouton Rothschild & Haut-Brion.
